New Music: ionnalee x iamamiwhoami – ; john

Late last year, Jonna Lee, the creative impulse behind the twimc label, ionnalee and iamamiwhoami streamed KONSERT. It saw them revisit and rework much of their music, including the haunting tones of ;john. Watch the visualiser to get a flavour of the song performed live.

The singer, who will be familiar to a broader audience due to their live work with Röyksopp, is a striking visual and vocal presence on the piece. At times aloof but also adept at letting the viewer into their world, ;john is witty, entertaining and shows that even without a live audience, their show can still entrance and enthral.

Lee says about the motivation behind this unique visual experience, “The idea was born when I had to cancel my world tour this year due to COVID-19. We were a month from the tour premiere, and I had worked for a long time with the production. I wanted to give my audience a chance to experience the concert they missed in an alternative way, and at the same time, get to work remotely with my colleagues who are spread all over the world. Digital has long been my arena, so it felt natural to celebrate 10-years of audiovisual releases in this way.”
